Set up Tessik on your kid's iPad

1 If Safari is locked down with Screen Time

Skip this step if your kid's iPad can already open websites.

You can allow just this one website and keep everything else blocked. On the iPad:

Settings › Screen Time › Content & Privacy Restrictions › App Store, Media, Web & Games › Web Content › Only Approved Websites › Add Website

On older iPads the menu is called Content Restrictions › Web Content instead. If you manage Screen Time from your own iPhone through Family Sharing, the same settings are under your child's name in Screen Time.

2 Put it on the home screen

So it opens full-screen like an app, with its own icon.

1. Open Safari and go to playtessik.com.
2. Tap the ··· button next to the address bar, then Share. (On older iPads, tap the Share button: the square with an arrow pointing up.)
3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
4. Leave Open as Web App switched on, then tap Add.

The first launch downloads about 11 MB, so do it on Wi-Fi. Tessik needs an internet connection to start.

3 Hand it over

Your kid taps the Tessik icon and builds. Their worlds save on the iPad. There's nothing to sign up for, no ads, nothing to buy, no chat and no other players.

On their first visit a glowing egg waits a few steps away. It hatches into a little crystal critter that learns a new trick each day they come back to play. It never gets hungry and nothing bad happens if they take a break.

Kids can tap the camera button to save a postcard of what they built. It saves to the iPad like any picture, so they can show you.

Something not working?

Blank or white screen: check that the approved address is exactly https://playtessik.com, then close and reopen the icon.

Very slow on an older iPad: Tessik tunes its graphics to the device automatically after a few seconds of play.
